Our time at the Dan’s Mom’s farm went by much too quickly. One of the things that I really wanted to see was a black bear. Every day, I would look for bear. I would look in fields, down on the flats, on the hills, by foot and by car. I had given up hope that I would see one before we left and joked that one would probably be spotted (but not by me!) right after we left. In the morning, Dan and his Mom were at the blackberry patch and Gin, Syl, and I were hanging out at their RV. All of a sudden, Syl says “bear”! At first, she thought that it was a dog but then decided that 1) dogs didn’t walk like that and 2) it was much too big to be a dog!). I turned and sure enough, there was a bear! I didn’t have my camera with me as the battery was charging but she had her new one!
It was walking up the path right near Dan and his Mom. I yelled “bear” and Dan and his Mom turned around to see it. As soon as the bear saw them, it started to pick up speed. Dan clapped his hands and whistled and the bear stopped, got on his back two legs and looked around. It was so neat to see and I’m glad Syl got the pictures to prove it!
In the afternoon, we headed our to our friend Doug’s father’s farm to hang out.
While Dan caught up with Doug’s brother and father, Doug gave us the grand tour!
The calves were so cute and when we approached and stuck out our thumbs (or hands!), they thought it was feeding time!
Syl even got the chance to milk one of the cows.
Call me crazy but I just love the way a barn smells.
Thanks Doug for the great tour! Hope to see you this winter in Florida!
That evening, Dan’s Mom Pauline had the extended family over for dessert. She made two delicious berry tarts and blackberry shortcakes. The blackberries were from her patch and they were bigger than the size of your thumb. Everything was delicious (as always!) and it was good to see everyone before we left.
Life is good!
Let me be the first to call you crazy! I know what a barn smells like and it ain't roses!
ReplyDeleteCool pictures though :)
I kind of like the way a barn smells too. It holds some good memories for me. Those calves are cuties.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure how that bear knew to run by there on the last day but that was cool. Wish I had gotten a pic of him standing on his back legs but I was busy just watching!
