Mooch-docking!

We left the campground at Stephen Foster early last Tuesday morning and arrived at our next "campground" around lunchtime.

View out one of our windows
Dave and June graciously let us "mooch-dock" at their farm for 6 days!  We had originally met Dave and June in NC and they invited us to their farm in Florida should we ever be in the area.  I took a gazillion pictures with my new camera......
Sadie the farm dog

It was a bit windy several days
Dave and June have eight cattle.  If I remember correctly, they are corriente cattle and all are supposed to be having calves sometime soon.  Every morning, I would go to the pasture to see if any calves were born overnight but no such luck.

They sure did like that hay!!

This gal loved having her picture taken.

Mouthful of hay!
In addition to the cattle, they also have a henny.   A henny the result of a male horse breeding with a female donkey. June has only had her for a few days before we arrived and she (the henny; not June!) tended to be a bit shy.

Pepper eating with the cattle
Sadie would scoot under the fences to the pastures and terrorize the cattle and the henny every chance she got.  The cattle would swat at her with their horns.  The henny would snort and then start running.

My favorite picture!
Dave and Dan spent hours talking and looking at all the "stuff" in Dave's workshops and sheds.

See this thing here....this is how it works....
See this orange hammer.....

BAM!!!
While visiting with Dave and June, we went to Ichetucknee Springs State Park one afternoon.  We hiked to the head spring of the Ichetucknee as well as the Blue Hole Spring.   On the way out, we saw a pileated woodpecker.  It looked just like Woody Woodpecker!  The state park does not offer camping but it does warrant a visit if you are in the area as it is just beautiful!  I did not have my camera with me this day but managed to get this picture of the Blue Hole Spring off of the internet.

Saturday morning, we headed out to some yard sales as well as a flea market.  Stay tuned for a future post for pictures of our purchases!  Dan is making a few modifications for a rolling laundry cart for me and another cart to use for toting our kayak to the water.  After the yard-saling and flea marketing was done, we needed to pick up a few groceries.  One thing I really like about Florida is the availability of fresh fruit....

Bing cherries, strawberries and forelle pears!  Yum!!
Back at the farm, we went exploring to the sinkhole that is on Dave and June's property.  The pictures absolutely do not do it justice but it's about 25 feet deep (or better) and there is a cave too!

Cave is on the far side of the hole...to the left of the first tree.

Entrance to the cave.
On our last night of mooch-docking, we cooked dinner for Dave and June.  Dan grilled london broil and asparagus and I had baked potatos and made dessert....

Braided almond bread with cream cheese filling!  The meal was yummy and the company was great.

Thank you again, June and David, for letting us mooch-dock!  Hope to see you again soon!

Wow, I've never heard of a henny before but it is neat looking and the fruits look VERY yummy! Be glad you're down in Florida because it's only 48 degrees & windy here in Raleigh - YIKES. Love you:-)

Having trouble with poor signal here in the middle of Myakka State Park. Sure looks like you've got a great campsite. I've heard of burros, donkeys, mules but never hennys.
Wish I could have come for that dinner. Sound YUMMY!!!
